HOW DOES OUR LOVIN' OVEN GARDEN GROW?

… ONLY WITH YOUR HELP!

Thanks to a generous gift from Kiwanis of Sonoma Plaza and additional donations from friends of Teen Services (see list below), we are on our way to building a Lovin' Oven garden at the Teen Center!  (Dare we say they provided seed money?)

Why a garden?

-  Provide fresh produce and herbs for Lovin' Oven culinary projects including LOCA and dinners for homeless clients of Sonoma Overnight Support
-  Introduce teens to agriculture/gardening as potential career path, a hobby, a therapeutic activity
-  Equip teens with basic and practical farming and gardening skills they can use to gain employment

Why now?

The timing is perfect.  Due to Covid-19 restrictions, scheduling activities outdoors allows us to engage more teens safely!

A special thank you for the additional donations from: Janet Engelbrecht, Mary Clark Janis, Nancy and Dave Roche, Tom Sours, and Robert Young

Stay tuned for photos as our garden grows!

Chef Paloma reminds us that beyond adding skill sets to prepare teens for employment, there are other wonderful benefits by having a garden available to teens:

-  Plant care fosters responsibility
-  Gardening is good for psychological well-being
-  Growing food encourages healthier eating habits
-  Outdoor time promotes exercise
-  Gardening builds confidence and self-esteem
-  Growers take pride in their hard work and harvests
